A New Chapter at 420 Main

Coming Fall 2026

This fall, a new chapter begins at 420 Main Street in the heart of Martindale.

Martindale Barbecue & River Club will open inside the historic Motor Company Building, led by chef Mike Torres and operated by Gold Epicure Hospitality. The project is the result of a partnership between Mike Torres, Matt Shrum, Meredith Henley, and building owner Maury Domengeaux, who share a vision of preserving one of Martindale's most iconic properties while creating a destination rooted in Texas hospitality, live-fire cooking, and community.

More than a restaurant, Martindale Barbecue & River Club represents the first of two hospitality concepts that will operate from this historic property, bringing new energy to a building that has served as a gathering place for generations.

Constructed in 1924, the Motor Company Building originally served as an automobile dealership and service station during the early years of Texas' automotive age. Over the decades, it evolved alongside Martindale itself, witnessing the growth of the town, the changing economy, and generations of local families. After a thoughtful restoration preserved its historic character, the building once again became a centerpiece of downtown life.

Today, its original bones remain—a reminder that great buildings outlive any single business, owner, or era. They belong to the broader story of the community.

For Mike Torres, this building is more than a business opportunity—it is where an important chapter of his own story began.

Before Martindale Barbecue & River Club was imagined, Mike spent countless hours inside these walls, cooking, learning, serving guests, and refining the style of hospitality that would eventually become Gold Epicure Hospitality. The Motor Company Building played a meaningful role in shaping his career, and the opportunity to return as a steward of the property carries a significance that extends far beyond opening another restaurant.

In many ways, this project feels less like arriving somewhere new and more like coming home.

That familiarity brings with it a deep sense of responsibility—to the building, to the town, and to the people who have gathered here over the years. The goal is not simply to occupy a historic space, but to contribute to its ongoing story and help ensure that 420 Main remains a place where community thrives for generations to come.

The next chapter of the Motor Company Building will be shaped by a deep respect for its history and an unwavering commitment to its future. While the building has hosted many memorable businesses and experiences throughout its lifetime, Martindale Barbecue & River Club will chart its own course.

Centered around Texas barbecue, live-fire cooking, river culture, music, and genuine hospitality, our goal is to create a place where locals feel at home, visitors discover the spirit of Martindale, and every gathering feels meaningful.

Under the stewardship of Gold Epicure Hospitality and the partnership of Mike Torres, Matt Shrum, Meredith Henley, and Maury Domengeaux, we are committed to honoring the history of this remarkable property while building something uniquely our own.

The building remains.

The community remains.

And a new chapter is about to begin.

We look forward to welcoming you to 420 Main this fall.
